What is Yellow Fever?

Yellow Fever is a disease prevalent in certain parts of Africa and South America. You can get the virus from the bite of an infected mosquito. The Yellow Fever Travel Clinic physicians provide you with Yellow Fever Vaccination.

Yellow Fever Symptoms.

Symptoms of Yellow Fever appear between three and six days following infection.  Yellow Fever symptoms vary and may include any or all of the following: nausea, vomiting, fever, headache, chills and muscle pain. After several days, most people appear to recover, however, approximately15% of yellow fever patients develop more serious symptoms, including bleeding, jaundice (a yellowing of the eyes and skin) and even organ failure. Yellow fever may be potentially fatal for unvaccinated individuals.  Before you travel to a county where yellow fever is a health risk, visit the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic physicians to receive your yellow fever vaccination.

Yellow Fever Travel Clinic advisories for Yellow Fever Vaccinations.

Travelers are always advised to use insect repellent, wear protective measures and to see your doctor prior to traveling overseas. The physicians at the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic will vaccinate you with YF-VAX (yellow fever vaccination) to reduce your risk of becoming ill with yellow fever. You will receive 1 injection. Immunization. This is an important measure in preventing yellow fever, however, it is not 100% protective against all risks. Ask the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic doctor about other ways to protect yourself from exposure to diseases transmitted by insects.

If you are travelling to, or through, a country where there is an exposure risk to your health, the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic physicians will advise the Yellow Fever vaccination (“YF-VAX”). Further, the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic physicians will immunize you and place an official stamp in your International Vaccination Certificate, proving that you have received the Yellow Fever vaccination. The International Vaccination Certificate is required to be carried along with your passport at all times and is valid for 10 years, beginning the tenth day after your vaccination, and immediately following any future Yellow Fever re-vaccinations.

Please note that Yellow Fever Vaccinations are only available at government authorized and designated Yellow Fever vaccination clinics such as the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic, which has been designated and authorized by the United States government.

Is the Yellow Fever Vaccination Right for Everyone? No! Read more below.

Do not get the Yellow Fever Vaccination for any of the following reasons:

1. If you are pregnant, you should discuss the risks and benefits of Yellow Fever vaccination with our Yellow Fever Travel Clinic physicians.
2. Children aged: under 9 months of age should not receive the Yellow Fever vaccination.
3. If you have cancer the Yellow Fever vaccination cannot be administered.
4. You must be healthy before receiving the Yellow Fever vaccine. A minor illness with no fever, such as a mild upper respiratory infection, is generally not a reason for deferral of the vaccination.
5. Adults aged: 65 or older should discuss the risks and benefits of Yellow Fever vaccination with our Yellow Fever Travel Clinic physicians to determine whether or not the Yellow Fever vaccination can be administered.
6. Individuals of any age with a known allergy to the Yellow Fever vaccine or any of its components, including allergy to eggs or chicken protein should not receive the Yellow Fever vaccination.
7. Individuals of any age with a weakened immune system due to HIV/AIDS infection, leukemia, lymphoma, generalized malignancy (e.g., corticosteroids, chemotherapy or radiation) should not receive the Yellow Fever vaccination.
8. Individuals of any age who has had their thymus gland removed or has a history of problems with the thymus should not receive the Yellow Fever vaccination.
9. Individuals of any age having had certain vaccines within the past month (discuss with our Yellow Fever travel doctor whether this applies to you).
10. Individuals of any age currently ill with an infection or fever should not receive the Yellow Fever vaccination.

Individuals falling into any of the above ten categories should not be administered the Yellow Fever vaccination unless otherwise noted above.

Those travelers with contraindications to use or infants under 6 months of age will be given a certificate of exemption by the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic physicians.
