What is Yellow Fever?

Symptoms of Yellow Fever appear between three and six days following infection.  Yellow Fever symptoms vary and may include any or all of the following: nausea, vomiting, fever, headache, chills and muscle pain. After several days, most people appear to recover, however, approximately15% of yellow fever patients develop more serious symptoms, including bleeding, jaundice (a yellowing of the eyes and skin) and even organ failure. Travelers are always advised to use insect repellent, wear protective measures and to see your doctor prior to traveling overseas. The physicians at the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic will vaccinate you with YF-VAX (yellow fever vaccination) to reduce your risk of becoming ill with yellow fever. You will receive 1 injection. Immunization. This is an important measure in preventing yellow fever, however, it is not 100% protective against all risks. Ask the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic doctor about other ways to protect yourself from exposure to diseases transmitted by insects.

If you are travelling to, or through, a country where there is an exposure risk to your health, the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic physicians will advise the Yellow Fever vaccination (“YF-VAX”). Further, the Yellow Fever Travel Clinic physicians will immunize you and place an official stamp in your International Vaccination Certificate, proving that you have received the Yellow Fever vaccination. The International Vaccination Certificate is required to be carried along with your passport at all times and is valid for 10 years, beginning the tenth day after your vaccination, and immediately following any future Yellow Fever re-vaccinations.
